My country has actually had several men get charged with war crimes, found guilty and get sent to prison only to have shithead presidents like Nixon and Trump pardon them and get them released from what should be life sentences. And that's from wars we didn't win.

2735031 - Tho' they are no less guilty, there were more than presidents involved with that (I'm a Yank too, btw).
I think about how Yamashita was hanged for things he had no control over, and even didn't know about; and how that doctrine (command responsibility) has hardly been applied with such force anywhere else.
