If a weapon from the NGSW (Next Generation Squad Weapon) program actually does get picked to replace the M16 and M4, I think it will be General Dynamics' RM277. If none of the guns are chosen I think the U.S. military and other NATO nations will choose True Velocity's polymer case ammo that was developed for the RM277 as their new standard ammo. I think Winchester's telescoped ammunition for Textron's weapons in the NGSW and LSAT (Lightweight Small Arms Technologies) programs is more advance but they were only made for the new weapons Textron made.
True Velocity had enough foresight to make new barrels for already existing older weapons in current use by the U.S. and other NATO nations that with a simple barrel change you can fire their polymer ammo out of older weapons.
