Perhaps it's referring to Sonic and the Dark Knight?

Excalibur is probably saying that Sonic is stupid for having a sword in that game just like other people have said over the internet.

Funny thing is, I've recently been reading Soul Eater so I understood who this incarnation of Excalibur is.

in short, Sega made a game for wii called "sonic and the dark knight" where sonic uses an excalibur like sword, Caliburn, to battle an evil version of king Arthur, assisted by the (rule 34 avoider so far) Merlina.

soul eater has an annoyingly awesome character, excalibur, who is calling sonic stupid for wielding a talking sword like him

Everybody makes it complicated. Caliburn (the sword sonic wields) insults Sonic by calling him "Knave" repeatedly throughout the beginning of his adventure.

In Soul Eater, the character named "Excalibur" (who transforms into a sword) repeatedly insults everybody who tries to wield him by calling them a "Baka."

There is your connection. Plus, the face Sonic is making is Black Star, they just edited the picture.
