Bridget was assigned female at birth.

Bridget's entire deal, as a character, was correcting people who misgendered... him.

Now every thread's gotta be this performative signalling, trying to start shit over retroactive pronouns. Aggressively ignoring what the character told EVERYONE, when he looked like this. When he was a he. When he was vehemently, vocally, foundationally, a boy in a dress.

A character dedicated to performing gender, in spite of his looks. Dead set on being a manly-ass bounty hunter in his own way. TERFs and other fascists call trans women "confused," but Bridget was never confused about a damn thing. He knew exactly what he was about. And it amounted to kicking ass, correcting pronouns, and being cute as fuck.

If anything, he shouldn't have needed to do violence, to prove himself. The desire to be respected was sufficient. And that desire was crystal fucking clear, despite all societal pressure treating him like a girl. And now apparently that pressure won... and we're supposed to be thrilled.

Notice how everybody's down with Testament being nonbinary. That makes perfect sense. It fits beautifully. But this? This was a betrayal. This was an act of BREAKING a queer icon. The universally-understood archetype for non-gender-conforming twinks making Kinsey Ones question themselves.

It's tantamount to having Astolfo start wearing a suit and tie exclusively. Except, even that wouldn't fuck up the character as hard as this did, because the phrase "back when he used to wear skirts" wouldn't have well-meaning fools insisting he always dressed the way he dresses now.
