Anon1, are you SURE you want to argue with her? That's like arguing with who has right of way at an intersection and the other guy has the semi (and you're on a motorcycle).

Herald - Guns on gunships are mounted on the left side of the aircraft. That goes for AC-130, AC-119, and AC-47.
Are YOU sure you'd like to continue?

It really depends. Gunship rule is it's armed to fire sideways but plenty of aircraft have been converted into gunships that break that rule. Heck Apache are considered a gunship and the term helicopter gunship has been coined, and while there are helicopters whose guns can turn to fire sideways, not every attack chopper can turn it's gun sideways.

Even four CH-47 Chinook's had at one point been converted into gunships and they normally break the other rule about gunships, needing to be heavily armored like a flying ship such as the AC-130 or a flying tank like the Apache. I say normally cause the normal Chinook is light armored but these 4 gunship versions were specially made to be heavily armored versions on top of heavily armed.

The other rule that seems to never be broken is the aircraft, be it made as a gunship or converted into one, is heavily armed with plenty of powerful munitions and big guns to engage and destroy multiple armored ground vehicles and personal while having some "sidearm" air to air weapon to fend off potential enemy air threats.

So the rules are
1. Heavily armed to be able to fight a battle with a large ground group by itself.
2. Heavily armored either through being specially made as such or having it added it on.
3. Shoot sideways but this rule has been broken.
