GOOD END ?! Vote this down if you think i'm bitchin too much but i do recall the SDF-1
surviving the final battle, though heavily damaged, the earth being rebuild and mynmay giving a huge concert due to it's restoration.

I' guess you're referring to the OVA Macross the Movie: Do you remember love ?.
It's somewhat like a movie compilation of the TV series but with some altered scenes.
The TV series starts on earth, the Macross crashlanding on an island in the pacific called Macross Island.
When the humans found and reconstructed it they gave it the islands name.
When the Zentaedi attacked, it's antigravity generators proved too weak to lift it and the crew was forced to hyperjump inside the earths atmosphere.
The initial jumptarget was behind the moon but they found themselves around pluto.
The TV series depicts their 1 year journey back home while fending off the Zentraedi still trying to ''reclaim'' their ''lost ship''.
Minmay is just starting her idol career.
In the OVA the Macross is already in outher space for 6 months passing by saturn.
Roy Fokker dies of illness in the series while in the ova he dies in combat.
The giant women are called Meltreadi in the ova while in the series both are referred to as the zentraedi

jedi1357: the events you reference in your spoiler occurred in the rewritten Robotech continuity, not the original SDF Macross. As much as I love Robotech, the difference between it and its source material should be kept in mind.
