I could easily picture Usagi wearing her henshin outfit to a anime con. This way she does not have to spend money to buy materials to make her own costume. So more to spend on stuff.
Ami joined in cause she wanted more shoujo-ai material and get more practice for her alone time with Makoto.

That translation note is wishful thinking.

It says "yaoi", not "yuri".
