Did you people ever consider he's wearing a glove? Index said it's bad luck transferred to the air around him, which is what cause his misfortune. So, preventing that link would probably stop it from happening.

Actually, his nullification cuts the "red string of fate" - what would cause girls to be attracted to their soulmate or ideal partner. As a result of having it cut, they tend to get very strong and mixed feelings while around him - which usually translates into attraction towards him. However, his bad luck means that even if they do pursue him, it'll cause him more trouble than good!
