Mean the M4 is a M16 but with a collapsible stock and mostly shorter barrel although you could put a 20" barrel into a M4 and well, still technically be a M4. But the Commando was just a tiny M16 for special forces in Vietnam if my knowledge is correct. Mind I don't think they're in chronological order as the 416 was only developed several years ago around 2010s and is currently serving the French and German militaries to my knowledge.

Good gun 416 don't hate DI but do prefer a gas piston like the 416 uses or say a AK platform uses.
