Making the victim sit like that and placing increasingly heavy weight on that spot is a genuine torture method. The weight of whatever is put there becomes more and more painful, eventually crushing the legs if the torturer continues. Due to the position the victim is in and the location of the weight, it's (when done right, not in this picture) impossible to move even slightly, so you can only wait as your legs are slowly being crushed.
