Guys, it's canon that Kamina's confidence is all just an act to encourage Simon, and that Kamina has the worst spiral levels out of anyone in the Dai-Gurren Brigade. If Simon, with his crazy-ridiculous levels of spiral had died, the fight against Lord Genome and the anti-spirals would've gone really, REALLY badly. (Not to mention Kamina probably wouldn't have recovered from his heroic BSOD.)

Bit it's simple fact that everything Kamina did was to inspire Simon. His "manliness and badassitude" was a facade he put on to inspire Simon to become manly and badass. If you don't understand that, you missed the point of his character.
