I think the implication here is incest somehow causes DNA damage, which is wrong. DNA molecules don't start behaving differently because they come from close relatives. What repeated inbreeding does in diploid organisms like humans is concentrate recessive alleles over generations, leading to offspring homozygous for recessive traits, which may be negative traits. This is why animal breeders periodically "outbreed" purebreed lineages, to counter this and "dilute" those recessive traits by bringing in new genetic material.
