Celebrating a womans first period. Not much of a reason to celebrate. Comes far to early for any reasonable woman to have a child, and its painful.

Keep in mind the tradition is older than our understanding on healthy childbearing or age of consent.

It is a left over of a time when women married very young and became mothers very early too. The first period would be a sign to the family that they can start looking for a husband or in an arranged marriage take the child to her fiance's home and get them married.
