since when was hanatarou partners with renji, I mean the only time he was with renji is when Renji helped out Ichigo in the soul society to save Rukia. But still, even then he wasn't necessarily partners with Hanatarou.

Maybe Rukia and Hanatarou are actually each other's partner here and the artist just drew them in the foreground with Byakuya and Renji behind them to keep the height line from going too crazy. It does look like they're the ones talking to each other.
