If it's the same guy as I remember, then his master sliced his mouth open with a sword. There's really messed up shit going on in that anime... Not in a good way either. Basically, the atmosphere is shitty; and there are no real good guys, everything is dark and murky and people die... That's pretty much it. And to add to that, it's unsatisfying to watch, especially when you get to the end; you think "WTF...? why did I watch this, what was the point?", true; part of the reason for that is the utterly failtastic ending, but even if there was a proper ending it wouldn't be that much different.

anon 3 don't just judge things from the cover only. If u watch it carefully u wouldn't say what u've said, it'sthe best samurai anime-manga I've ever seen and for the ending it's an anime that is based on a manga that is based on a novel and the the manga wasn't completed when the anime was aired, try to read the manga now that it was completed.
