Alternatively- even though they were feathered, they wore braided fibers hung decoratively in a matter similar to jewelry. Also, if the suit is formed by her thoughts, it's whatever color she imagines it to be, and it'sentirely reasonable for her to expect the material to darken. So it's discolored.
Stop trying to shit on artistic interpretation or license because you can't think critically or imaginatively.
