Father Nier was easily the better of the two. Brother Nier was just another typical JRPG protagonist with a happy-go-lucky attitude who got serious trying to save his sister blah blah done a million times.

Father Nier was a refreshing change of pace in both his relationship to others, his motivations and main quest, and personality.
