It was good up until the "terrorist leader" at the end. Every time I see this it pushes the knife in deeper, because history is decided by the victor. Good guys are usually the winners, while "bad guys" are the ones who lost the battle (history tends to throw morals out the window for the latter). I know I'm gonna get flamed or reported for saying this, but to my fellow Americans out there let's be honest with ourselves: if Washington and the other revolutionaries hadn't won (which was only because Britain was too busy fighting France to care) then the people who created our country would've been labeled the time-relative term for terrorists as well. It's only an absolute act of terrorism when you aren't fighting on behalf of the native people.

its not just labled them as terrorists, if we have lost the wars. our leaders would be drawn and quartered, and hand their entrails burned or used as the rope to hang them, and america as we know it would always be under the rule of england but under a much more worse reign than taxation with our representation. maybe made into slaves and who knows been forced to have sex with the owners regardless of the age or gender. but good thing we won. as the only people that has the right to declare what is right and wrong are the people with power.

Indeed you are right, Anon1. Yes, Lelouch isn't exactly a nice person, but his speeches are less about terror, and more about empowerment of the weak. And there's no question that Britannia is a bad thing, considering what we see of the housing and treatment of third-class citizens.
On the other hand... Kira had some good intentions to start with... but he really is a serial murderer, and "all criminals must be punished with death" is a terrible idea.

Lelouch was a terrorist, and even labeled himself as one until the forming of the Black Knights.
On another note, I hate when people compare these characters... personality wise they might be somewhat similar, and they both fit the "Magnificent Bastard" trope to a T, but honestly, look at how they react to situations.
Compare Lelouch's Shirley against Light's Misa. They're both characters that show the protagonist unrequited affection. Light abuses the shit out of Misa, and uses her, and (plans on) throwing her aside when he's used her up. Lelouch puts Shirley's life above (almost) all else. One could argue that they're highly opposite characters, as pointed out by someone else, as dark and light.
What I find more peculiar is that girls find Light the more sympathetic hero. Is this because he seems more available? Or is it because they're attracted to his more flawed nature?

I suspect that Light seems more sympathetic to some because he refuses to believe that he's doing anything wrong. In contrast, Lelouch admits that he's a bad person doing bad things and constantly compares himself to the devil. Maybe some people find Light's messiah complex more sympathetic?
