If one uses an unpetrification spell, it should turn them back, proving they were only petrified, not killed. Besides. This isn't meant to be sexy. Just strange, like 99% of anime out there.

Technically, petrification falls under the realm of ASFR, and weather the character truly "dies" or not depends on the writer/creator, and there has been a group of people who are into Petrification, and sometimes they create works that portray characters being forever petrified and effectively lifeless (i.e dead) or in the more benign works, the transformation is easily reversible, and the person who gets turned into a statue retains conscienceness and their sense of touch, sight, and hearing, though that depends on what appeals to the creators. though usually, the creators tend to go with the "effectively transformed into an inanimate object with no senses and sentience, until reverted back to normal by some magic effect" gig. Yes there is a community that has a major petrification fetish, and yes, there are people who find this stuff attractive in their eyes.

MyPitah: technically speaking, the gorgon medusa was the first gorgon, and the most powerful. look her in the eyes, and you'd be petrified for all eterenity. the other gorgons are offspring of the main gorgon, some can use the petrification powers, some cannot. the myth goes that medusa was originally more beautiful than even venus, the goddess of love. venus, of course, didn't like that, not one bit. so she turned her into medusa, a creature so ugly, that one look would turn a man to stone. however, medusa was pregnant ot the time of the change, and gave birth to a gorgon that retained the original beauty, and was unaffected by the "medusa curse." she eventually left the nest, and proceeded to breed and create another type of gorgon, which, instead of turning men to stone, they would kidnap them and "marry them" there were some offspring affected by the medusa curse, unfortunatley, and those were sent back to the island. and as for the turning people to stone part, the daughter of medusa inhereted it, but could control it- unlike her mother.
