This comment section is a damn mess. Just admit that machine learning cannot do a better job than actual people and move on with your lives.

I don't give a shit about the political side of it or anything, I just think that when your job is to translate things and you do something other than that, you didn't do your job and someone who will do the job they have been assigned should take that job. The point of localization is to fix the awkwardness of changing grammar and making metaphorical and figurative speech translate, not to change the actual writer's meanings. Languages are weird and varied so a 1:1 translation often fails, which becomes more frequent the less the languages are related. It's fairly easy most of the time to directly translate between, say, English and German. The less 1:1 the languages are, the more fixing you'll need for things like metaphors and figures of speech. To me, the original is bad for the same reason it's bad when dubs get rid of the honorifics and change to western name order.

@Kaoshima Yeah no, that's pretty fucking dumb and inaccurate. I'd hope you were just trolling. The original had nothing to do with "patriarchal standards", nothing about it being exclusively men, and nothing about Lucoa knowing what "patriarchal standards" would be. The hilariously ironic thing is that the word "patriarchy" implies that only men would have an issue with Lucoa's body when you have a fuckton of women that'd be complaining or jealous about her body. The original mangaka took issue with this change. That should prove without a doubt it was a fuck up. It has nothing to do with "challenging my worldview", as if I needed something like that in an anime that has nothing to do with that. I'm open to new things, and I've already deciphered this change and it's meaning as stupid and flawed. Stop lumping people who have a problem with dumb changes like these into one big category.
