I can see how you might miss his strong feminine side, since 99% of dialogue is just text. He's really quite gentle and artistic... sensitive, even. He's a lot like Ikari Shinji, of course, but not as whiny (only natural, of course, Fei is significantly older)

Being gentle artistic and sensitive are not effeminate qualities, they are qualities held in high regard be the warrior class of countless cultures through out history. plus you ignore the fact that Fei is equally determined, courageous, stubborn, passionate, and is prone to moral out rage. These are not gender indicative qualities so much as character revealing ones.
