The A-10 Warthog retains it's title as one of the ugliest, yet sexiest, aircraft in the Air Force inventory.

Until someone can create a better aircraft for making enemy forces shit their pants in terror, there is no substitute...

God will forgive the Taliban. The A-10 Kai will make the appointment.

I never saw the A-10 as ugly. Older yes, but still a elegantly and gracefully designed aircraft.

Now if only they mass produced them as UAVs. I would love to see that happen.

You might get half of that wish. I don't think anymore A-10s are gonna be made, they're aging. However they may convert the remaining ones into drones and keep using them till they're all shot down. The U.S. is converting the Bradly fighting vehicles into land drones because they've become obsolete and can be used as cannon fodder to do some damage before having to send people or valuable weapons/equipment in.

Russia is doing something similar to one of their outdated tanks, converting it into a drone. It's a cool idea, taking something that is obsolete and would just get the crew killed, removing the crew and putting them in more modern vehicles and turning the outdated vehicle into a essentially a drone on a suicide mission.

Personally, I'd like to see the A-10 just be updated, and hopefully once we figure out ionized propulsion for aircraft (yes, scientists are currently working on that in real life) we can make them like new again with new ion-engines and make them into "futurelized" versions of themselves like in this picture. Technology is always advancing, we are making new armors that are lighter but stronger and easier to maintain, eventually we could strip the old armor off the air frame and add newer, lighter ones. Cheaper too, cheap doesn't always mean crap, it can also mean good and cost effective.

Also just imagine an A-10 with ion-engines. You won't hear it coming. Both commercial airlines and the military would love ionized gases as a means of flight because it's so quiet, and less maintenance as there's less moving parts.

by the time we have ion propelled aircraft the a-10 is gonna be nothing but scrap metal.
