Ugh. They make such great merchandise but seem unwilling to tell new contiguous stories to the "canon" of Eva. That's why Gundam and Star Trek are so popular: they make a 30-40 episode long series, than maybe a film to finish off that saga or to segue into a new one. They don't go retconning things here and there, they make new universes or canons to fit the writers' and character designers' ideas..

Sure there is the different types of spin-offs and what-if stories out there, but for Eva, its rather hard to create another universe like in Gundam or Star Trek since the Evas are important to the plot.

Funny thing, Kiryu and the Eva are similar in conception. Being built around the remains of a creature.
