Bugs is correct. Insect is not (with that you are right). Bugs refer to pretty much ALL creepy crawlies. A spider is not an insect, no. But it IS a bug.

Ignoring the fact that Merriam Webster defines bug first and foremost as "an insect or other creeping or crawling invertebrate (as a spider or centipede)"... Do you really not know that bug is a VERY common colloquialism for spider? If this were an intellectual forum we could argue semantics, but come on...
