I was under the impression that Yoshimitsu in SC was an ancestor of the one from Tekken, not them being the same person.

There are theories that they are the same person. However the theories seem rather impossible because of the whole hand thing.

The truth is that it's an aleis then it is an actual name. So far, there has been no canon to prove its a family rite. The Yoshimitsu from SC5 was more of a subordinate that served the first one. It can be implied that its more of a title than an actual name.
