Gold is holding a pool cue, like in the manga.

Their roles/special skills in the manga were, IIRC:

Gold (The Breeder)
Silver (The Exchanger)
Crystal (as she normally would've been) (The Capturer)

It's not a pool cue, it's a fishing rod -_-

The whole "five million storylines" and cross-canon counterparts for main characters really bugs me. I prefer to just stick with the games and shove the manga and anime out of my mind.

Anon318160: There is no such a thing as "game storyline" since the games were designed in a way players can do as much as they can and develop themselves on it like a traditional RPG. Pokemon Special basically covers the role of providing a storyline and it was made canon by the very same game creators:

Pokémon creator Satoshi Tajiri: "This is the comic that most resembles the world I was trying to convey."

Game producer Tsunekazu Ishihara: "I want every Pokémon fan to read this comic!"

This is pretty common in Nintendo games since they believe that adding storyline or dialogue ruins the game experience they instead release the storyline in a separate format outside the game: There are comics for almost every The Legend of Zelda and Metroid game but they are rarely released outside Japan.
