this makes no sense. Look at White in the official art. She isn't older looking. And now take into account that Kotone, Gold, White and Black all start their journey at 10 US/12 JP, and it would make sense that Kotone would be either older or the same age as White by the time she got her first pokemon.

Well the question is more of when each of them began their journey, rather than at what age. Since GSC (DPPt too, but that's not of concern right now) is set 3 years after RBGY and RSE, then yes Gold and Kotone would in fact be among the youngest. Since Black and White also started older than the others, the only way they could be the same age is if Gen 5 happens to be set several years after Gens 2 and 4, which remains to be seen since nobody's confirmed that yet (as far as I know anyways). In other words, it's more likely that Black and White are indeed older.
Oh, but nerd rant aside, Anon2 makes perhaps the best point here. Enjoy the art, that's what it's there for.
