In the spring of 1981, Kitano began appearing on the TV show "Oretachi Hyokinzoku" (We are Jokers), a Japanese version of the American comedy show "Saturday Night Live". Here, Kitano invented the character "Takechan-Man", a superhero who each week would fight his enemy "The Black Devil" and together they would do childish and silly things.
